expectations

Cristi is my sister's BFF, but I like to lay claim to her too. When Lexi was born, she lent her nursing expertise and smothered us with kindness, when I was overwhelmed with a fresh batch of postpartum depression and a colicky baby, far away from my family.

She is expecting her first baby in early March, and we can't wait to meet him.

(I was ever so close to saying Terrible Things. Like 'motherhood is hard' and 'eating your young is a perfectly acceptable position'. I had that morning, a terrible mothering morning. But I kept these things to myself, and saved them for you. Don't you feel lucky?)

"eating your young" is good stuff. I have never thought of eating them, BEATING them has crossed my mind a few times though... Deep breaths and prayer has helped my children stay alive numerous times.

Seriously? March? It looks like she could be due in July and I might believe you. Damn skinny pregnant girls and their little bellies!

(I say this all in good fun, I would never insult your friends. Honest!)

There are days I am convinced that the species who eat their young are far more intelligent and sophisticated than we are.
Good on you not saying Terrible Things. Isn't it tempting?

1. I am due in April an twice her size.
2. I could never wear that dress even not pregnant.
3. She looks fabulous!
4. She will find out soon enough mother hood is hard, no one told me ahead of time.
Okay, how cool is the dress code at that shower? Fabulous pictures! And you look gorgeous as ever!

I recommend pulling out the ole photo album to remind yourself that 1) you love your kids, 2) you've been a wonderful mom most days, so you're totally allowed to have a day like today with minimal guilt. =)
Yes, Cristi is teeny, tiny.

I was never that tiny, pregnant or otherwise.

(And I fooled you;that's my sister, Lori with Cristi.)

Congrats to your friend. How exciting.

Eating your young? You might be on to something.

Was there a mandate to wear blue? Or just for the Party Team?

I think my tone is slightly snarky because I, too, could never ever work a strapless shiny gown like the mom-to-be. Ever. And I'm a bit jealous for no good reason.

Lexi looked very excited to be there; I'm glad you didn't embarrass her with your weird comments...

You are good to show restraint. K made mommy take a time out after dinner tonight.

Nice photos! Nice pregnant lady! Nice restraint on the advice-ola. And holy everyone-wearing-blue! That's, like, way more organized than my whole entire life put together. Nice work!

We used to threaten to get my youngest son, Nicky, a t-shirt that said "Too Cute to Eat" because that is really the one thing that saved him on many, many occasions.

Congratulations to Cristi! Since she was so nice and nurturing to you when you needed it most, we won't hold the skinny thing against her.

I've tagged you for a meme, but you are in no way obligated to play.

Good Morning~ This is Cristi's mommy and Grandma-To-Be! Thank you ALL for the adorable comments about my BABY GIRL. She has been a blessing in our lives, and we can't wait for our Baby Boy Grandson to enter the world. Cristi also has been so blessed with her wonderful friends. Thank you so much Lori and Lisa. What would we do without you. Oh yes, the nursery was painted last night by Grandpa-To-Be. Bet you can't guess the color!
