When the sun rises tomorrow morning, I will have clocked 2,700 pages with my pal Roland Deschain and his ka-tet, finishing the fifth of seven books in the Dark Tower Series.
While in Bermuda, I swallowed Jincy Willett's new novel, The Writing Class whole. (Well, I nibbled on the beach and on planes and in airports, but I managed to finish it on vacation.) Have you read Jenny & the Jaws of Life? There seemed a time when nearly every author interview I read referred to the then out of print collection of short stories. Her writing style is delicious.
Twilight might be a book written just for little ol' me, bereft years after Buffy left the airwaves and I nearly passed it up, turned off by the buzz. (See also: Harry P.) I figured I better buy it now, before my saturation nerve gets twitchy.
And I picked up this gem from the library last weekend. I. can. hardly. wait.
So much reading, so little time...

I devoured books 1 - 3 of the Twilight Saga in about one week, before book 4 came out, and then went to the midnight presale for book 4 with my 15 year old. I blogged the whole experience, to her utter humiliation. http://shanaob.blogspot.com/search/label/Twilight%20Saga
Have you read Augusten Burroughs? He's my secret online gay boyfriend.
Just finished reading Certain Girls and Goodnight Nobody by Jennifer Weiner. About to start Moose by Stephanie Klein for my online book club.
Nice to see a fellow read-a-holic online : )
But I was paying attention to the things you were saying; I, too, want to jump on the Twilight bandwagon before the movie this fall. My students are all agog about it.
I'm so glad I finally found your blog...didn't know you were quite the writer (and reader) type! Good to know! I just finished "Naked" by David Sedaris. I'd never read anything by him (heard him a few times on NPR) and was surprised to find him so. very. quirky. I'm exactly in the same place as you with the Twilight series--turned off by the buzz (an Entertainment Weekly COVER??) but intrigued to read it before the movie (filmed in Oregon) comes out. Aaron and I watched the ENTIRE seven seasons of Buffy right after Jonathan was born, like two episodes a night, it seemed. Then we gave Whedon-world a rest before diving into Angel. I can't imagine another Vampire world without lovely sarcastic Buffy. We'll see!
