a season

Maybe I am over blogging. Sure, it's a worn out subject, but I've noticed many of my favorite writers have stopped updating their blogs or do so occasionally. I used to think - back when I posted daily; I was bubbling over with ideas - how ludicrous and sad it was, this giving up or in or whatever had crossed my mind at the time.

I could write about the copious amounts of rum I drank to unclench my aching jaw after watching my friend sign divorce papers or couple skating with my husband last weekend, my heart full of gratitude, but when words come to mind these days, I spill them in short spurts on facebook; I let them brew, fiction fermenting.

Sure, I'll still be here from time to time. I'll still stop by your place sometimes.

But I'm letting myself off the hook, the guilt I feel when days, weeks pass and my blog collects dust.

It feels good.

Yeah.....sometimes I think facebook updates are sucking up all my creativity. Or time. Or both. I like reading your blog...but heck, if you wanna quit, maybe we both might do something more productive! ha! ;)

I know how all of this feels. I've been there a million times over.

Blogging should give something back, like a release or joy or satisfaction or something. Definitely not guilt!

I think this medium, just as everything else in our lives, serves its purpose when the time is right. But sometimes we've got to let up in one area to fully focus and partake of other sweet fruits in our life.

Do what's good for you, and don't feel guilty! I miss the posts but can content myself with sporadic musings!

Here's a thought that I've been rolling around, trying to decide if I like its taste: maybe a blog needs to grow and change, mature along with the author's changing needs? And we just need to let that happen, see what shape it takes, instead of thinking it's all over because we don't have the passion we once did. Like love - think how sad it would be if we all jumped ship once the hormones and chemicals settled into something calmer. Something with the potential to be infinitely more beautiful if we have a little patience with it.

So maybe for some it means posting less often, sharing what needs to be shared when it insists on jumping out of us and into the world?

Maybe blogs have seasons, just like we do.

That's what I've been thinking. Maybe.
You are all so insightful, and get what I am thinking which feels very validating.

Sometimes I think I am ready to shed this MM gig, and do something else - with a little more anonymity - after about 800 posts. Maybe I'm just done with this one, just like Much to my Sjogren. One day, I just didn't feel like talking about it anymore.

So much to ponder.

I'll keep checking in on you from time to time.
Wow, I think I posted almost the same thing today. I do think this blogging thing serves a purpose in a time for some of us, and then we move on. Sometimes I am all Posting and Reading, and sometimes I am Living My Other Life!

Here's to Guilt Free Blogging When You Feel Like it!
Yeah, blogging should never feel like a chore. It would if I felt I *had* to post something every bloody day, to be sure. For me, it's more cyclical than seasonal, if that makes sense. I have more to say sometimes than others, and I'm ok with that.

When it starts to feel like a chore... well, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it, right? I'm still having fun.

Still, I'd like to see you stick around, even if you don't have much to say sometimes. We all understand! It makes us smile wider to see you come up in our readers when you DO have something to say and we can catch up on things. It's all good.

Have a great day :)

blogging comes and goes. you should never feel guilty for not being here or for anything you say in this space....

No matter when you post, no matter how often, I'll be reading when you do. I think that you need to go with your gut and blog when you have something to say/share. I feel as though I have something to share often, but I have a hard time with words and therefore usually end up with just photos.

i agree totally....with everyone.
Blogging and facebooking each serve a purpose...we go to them when we need them. I find that i have slacked off a bit on blog reading because so many of my "friends" are also blogging buddies...FB is instant....but i like the depths that can be reached with our blogs....i'll keep checking in here, but....i'll see you on fb too.
Seasons....i like that.

I think so many of us are tweeting or FBing our thoughts - we have little copy left in our brains!

Yay for you. Been collecting some dust at my end, too, but thinking the dust needs to get higher so that my real life can get more tending.

I know of which you speak... I love your blog. I miss your blog.

I feel incredible guilt when I let too many days go by without blogging, but even worse when I'm not reading my favorite blogs. And you are one of them.

I understand. I'm finding it hard to do it all.

And...oh, my God, what K said. So incredibly beautiful.
